Frank Hartzell graduated from Humboldt State University in Northern California and built a sterling reputation for honesty and accuracy during his 15 years as a journalist at the Gridley Herald, Appeal Democrat and Sacramento Bee, winning awards for investigative reporting. Frank received a Kiplinger Fellowship at Ohio State University, where he completed his master’s degree. Frank was managing editor of the Napa Valley Register, one of the finest small-medium sized newspapers in the country, for four years. He then spent a year as a college professor, before moving to Fort Bragg, on the Mendocino Coast.

Frank also loves Packard automobiles, Sierra-Nevada exploration, rare books, and his dog. He is active in many community groups on the Mendocino Coast.

Frank’s writing appears in local, regional, and national publications.
