Auctions are fun! Here’s how an auction works. You start by registering for a bidder number. You will have the chance to look everything over before and during bidding. When the auctioneer opens bidding on something you like, raise your bidder number in the air until the auctioneer sees you. When you are recognized, put the bidder number down. If the auctioneer misses your bid, keep your number up. Don’t worry about scratching your ear and buying a piano. That only happens on TV! But don’t complain if you forget to bid on that priceless item until after the auctioneer says “sold.” Keep raising your bidder number until you win! Then pay after the auction for your item including sales tax. The auctioneer declares when the bidding is finished, and a final bid is a contract to buy. Items are sold as is. You can preview items before and during the auction. You must pay by cash or check, including sales tax, and remove your items by the end of the event.
Come try out an auction to benefit MendoPower, a nonprofit organization finding jobs and reducing the waste stream. For more information see mendopower.org.
